Triodos Bank (TB) es una entidad de crédito fundada en 1980 en Holanda, que cuenta con una intensa actividad en Europa, América Latina, Asia y África. El origen de su nombre, del griego 'tri hodos' (triple vía), define su modelo de negocio, basado en unir lo social, ético y financiero. Este enfoque no lo hace en absoluto incompatible con el objetivo de los beneficios: En 2005, el Grupo Triodos creció un 25% en el total de balance, con más de 2.300 millones de euros en gestión, y cuenta con más de 100.000 clientes en Europa - 5.000 en España-, y 10.000 accionistas.

Uno de los principales responsables de que TB opere desde 2004 en España es su Director General, Esteban Barroso (Madrid, 1962). Su carrera profesional lo ha vinculado desde 1978 a puestos de responsabilidad en empresas financieras como Sistema 4B o Barclays Bank y le ha llevado en 1998 a fundar la empresa Proyecto Trust, una consultora basada en los mismos principios de su actual trabajo. Según Barroso, el objetivo de TB es "contribuir a un cambio positivo y sostenible de la sociedad desde el sistema financiero". Para ello, TB financia a empresas, instituciones y proyectos que añaden valor en el ámbito social, medioambiental y cultural, y ofrece a sus clientes depósitos o tarjetas de crédito "ecológicas".

Después de escándalos como el de Forum y Afinsa, un banco "ecológico y solidario" puede resultar sospechoso. ¿Cómo garantizan su seriedad y solvencia?
El Banco de España nos impone el mismo control en materia de publicidad, transparencia y liquidez que al resto de bancosSomos un banco con todos los atributos de una entidad financiera, por lo que la comparación con estos casos es inadecuada. TB está supervisado por los bancos centrales en los países donde operamos con ficha bancaria. ¿Qué hace TB por el medio ambiente?
Uno de nuestros ejes de actuación es la financiación de iniciativas, empresas e instituciones sostenibles que promueven el respeto al medio ambiente y aportan soluciones innovadoras, como la agricultura ecológica o biodinámica, las energías renovables, la bioconstrucción o la tecnología medioambiental. Nuestra política medioambiental está inspirada en la sostenibilidad, desde nuestra política de compras y gestión de proveedores hasta nuestras medidas de ahorro energético, o en la compensación voluntaria de emisiones de CO2 con la compra de créditos que proceden de bosques sostenibles con certificación FSC. Nuestro objetivo es contribuir a un cambio positivo y sostenible de la sociedad desde el sistema financiero.

¿Conoce alguna iniciativa similar a TB?
Hay otras entidades en el mundo dedicadas a la banca sostenible. Una de ellas, muy reciente, es el New Resource Bank, en California. En España se desarrollan desde hace tiempo iniciativas interesantes de economía alternativa y solidaria, pero no nos consta ningún banco totalmente operativo en España como el nuestro.

¿Cómo pueden competir con los bancos convencionales y los de Internet y con estas nuevas empresas que ofrecen créditos al instante?
Nuestra política no se basa en competir con el resto de entidades financierasNo creemos que sea una cuestión de competir. TB desarrolla un modelo de negocio especializado, orientado a los sectores social, cultural y medioambiental, y basado en una política de transparencia y en productos de ahorro responsable. Es una forma diferente de entender el negocio bancario, una opción sensata para quienes consideran que es compatible la rentabilidad económica y valores como la sostenibilidad o la responsabilidad social.

Hablemos de sus principales productos "ecológicos". ¿En qué consiste el Ecodepósito?
Se trata de un depósito a plazo fijo de un año con un 2,50% TAE desde sólo 300 euros que aúna rentabilidad económica y medioambiental. Por cada depósito contratado, la entidad planta un árbol en un bosque de gestión sostenible en el municipio de Alcaraz (Albacete) y que no podrá ser objeto de comercialización. Si el cliente deposita una cantidad superior a 3.000 euros, recibe una suscripción como socio por un año a una de las organizaciones que apoyan el Ecodepósito: Amigos de la Tierra España, Ecologistas en Acción, Greenpeace España, SEO/Bird Life, o WWF/Adena.

¿Y la tarjeta de crédito Visa ecológica?
Nuestra tarjeta de crédito permite realizar las compras cotidianas con un impacto medioambiental positivoEs una tarjeta de crédito que incorpora también funcionalidades de débito en su operativa asociada a la red de cajeros 4B. ¿Cómo puede hacerse un consumidor cliente de TB?
Cualquier persona, institución y entidad pública puede hacerse cliente de forma muy sencilla por teléfono, correo postal, Internet, o en nuestras oficinas en Madrid y Barcelona.

¿Tienen pensado abrir más oficinas?
A medio plazo no lo descartamos. La reciente apertura en mayo de la Delegación Territorial para Cataluña y Baleares se integra en nuestro deseo de estar más próximos a nuestros clientes.

¿Podría adelantar algún producto y/o servicio que vayan a lanzar próximamente?
La Cuenta Justa o el Ecodepósito ya pueden contratarse sin necesidad de cambiar de bancoEn estos momentos, por ejemplo, queremos hacer más cómoda y simple la manera de hacerse cliente. En este sentido, la Cuenta Justa -una cuenta de ahorro que promueve el desarrollo del Comercio Justo-, o el Ecodepósito ya pueden contratarse sin necesidad de cambiar de banco.

Las empresas son otro de los objetivos de TB. ¿Con qué principales clientes cuentan y cómo enfocan sus productos y servicios?
Una muestra puede encontrarse en la Revista Triodos, el boletín electrónico, la página web o en la propia memoria anual. Muchas empresas y organizaciones depositan sus excedentes de tesorería en TB como una decisión sensata acorde con sus políticas de responsabilidad social o de acción social positiva. Nuestros clientes, además de obtener rentabilidad económica o recibir financiación, contribuyen con sus decisiones financieras a una sociedad más equilibrada que progresa respetando a las personas y la naturaleza.

La concesión del Nobel de la Paz al banquero y economista de Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus ha lanzado los microcréditos a la fama. ¿En qué consisten?
Son una herramienta eficaz en la lucha contra la pobreza. Se trata de pequeños préstamos que permiten a personas con escasos recursos y dificultades de acceso a la banca tradicional, desarrollar una actividad económica que mejore sus condiciones de vida y la de su entorno más inmediato.

¿TB también ofrece este producto?
No consideramos que se den las circunstancias en España para que podamos ofrecer microcréditosSí, a través de nuestros Fondos Internacionales Triodos, especialmente diseñados para apoyar activamente iniciativas en países en vías de desarrollo que actúan como organizaciones de microfinanciación. En este sentido, participamos en 60 organizaciones de estas características en 40 países en el mundo, lo que nos ha permitido ser reconocidos a nivel internacional como una de las entidades de referencia en este ámbito.

¿Son factibles en España?
En la actualidad, no consideramos que aún se den las circunstancias para que podamos ofrecer este tipo de financiación especializada en España.

¿A qué retos se enfrentan de aquí en adelante los microcréditos?
El principal desafío es el peligro de que se pueda llegar a considerar que sólo los microcreditos por sí mismos, sin estabilidad política, sin que estén garantizados los derechos fundamentales o sin iniciativas como el Comercio Justo, pueden erradicar la pobreza en el mundo.

TB también ha participado en la creación de AIS (Analistas Internacionales en Sostenibilidad). ¿Cuál es su función?
Los microcreditos por sí mismos, sin estabilidad política, sin que estén garantizados los derechos fundamentales o sin iniciativas como el Comercio Justo, no pueden erradicar la pobreza en el mundoAIS es una agencia de ratings, fruto de una alianza entre el Grupo Triodos y la Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo (Ecodes), que mide la capacidad y compromiso de las empresas cotizadas para que integren en sus modelos de gestión los riesgos y oportunidades sociales y medioambientales y, de esta forma, generen valor empresarial y mayor rentabilidad. Los inversores profesionales (fondos de inversión, fondos de pensiones, etc.) que desean incorporar criterios de sostenibilidad o éticos en sus análisis previos a la realización de una inversión, cuentan así con información adicional de las principales empresas cotizadas en el mundo, de acuerdo a una metodología contrastada (SiRi).

La Fundación Universidad Empresa distribuirá, de forma gratuita, a pequeños y medianos empresarios material a fin de formarlos y sensibilizarlos en el ámbito de la sostenibilidad.

Esta iniciativa, enmarcada en el Proyecto de Formación y Sensibilización Medioambiental de las pymes, trata de orientar y concienciar a los pequeños y medianos empresarios, además de explicarles las herramientas para obtener una mejor cualificación y alcanzar una mayor competitividad empresarial.

Así, el nuevo material, cofinanciado por la Fundación Biodiversidad y el Fondo Social Europeo, se distribuirá a empleados activos de las pymes o profesionales autónomos que lo soliciten, y se repartirán en las instalaciones de la Fundación o en diversos actos de presentación que tendrán lugar en los próximos días, en diferentes localidades de la Región de Murcia.

En concreto, en Cieza se difundirá el próximo jueves, día 14; en San Javier, el día 18; en Molina de Segura el 19; en Caravaca de la Cruz el día 20; y en Cartagena, el día 21, según informaron fuentes de la Fundación.

Al acto, que tuvo lugar en el salón de actos de la Cámara de Comercio de Murcia, asistieron, entre otros, el consejero de Industria y Medio Ambiente, Benito Mercader; el presidente de la Fundación Universidad Empresa, Francisco Hernández; y su director gerente, Enrique Egea.

En la presentación, Hernández puso de manifiesto que el tejido empresarial murciano "está formado, en más de un 80 por ciento, por pequeñas y medianas empresas", una cifra que indica "la importancia que tiene su formación y concienciación sobre la sostenibilidad medioambiental para poder seguir produciendo sin agotar los recursos, reciclando todo lo posible y ahorrando energía para reducir el impacto ambiental de la actividad empresarial".

Durante el encuentro, se hizo entrega a los asistentes, además de los dos nuevos códigos (Suelo y Energía), el Manual de Habilidades Directivas para el Sector Ambiental, el Compendio de formularios de procesos administrativos medioambientales y el folleto divulgativo para el fomento de la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa.

Decidiendo a que conferencia o evento asistir esta mañana porque es . imposible asistir a todas las que se nos invita. Asistó hoy a la entrega de Premios Responsabilidad Social Empresarial de las empresas de SOFOFA. Un extraordinario y valioso discurso de Bruno Phillipi, su presidente y del Presidente de ENDESA . Los premiados eran ENDESA CHILE y GERDAU AZA .Todos resaltaron la importancia de la Responsabilidad Social para la empresa.

El Gerente de Gergadau AZA se encontraba en Brasil y desde allá envió un caluroso saludo y motivador para los empresarios que presenciamos en enorme pantalla.

Entre los muchos asistente al evento estava la creme de la creme ( como decía mi abuela ) de los empresarios Chilenos. Además conversé con Gustavo Rivera Gerente de SOFOFA Responmsabilidad Social

Propuestas empresarias para la inclusión social

El martes de la semana pasada se llevó a cabo el encuentro anual de la Asociación Cristiana de Dirigentes de Empresa (ACDE). Más de 350 ejecutivos que se dieron cita en el Sheraton de Pilar tuvieron un día atípico: la totalidad de la jornada estuvo dedicada a dar respuesta efectiva al problema de la marginalidad social, que el sociólogo Agustín Salvia de la UCA calculó que afecta a un tercio de la sociedad. "No es verdad que si la economía va bien todo lo demás está bien. Estamos en un país con profundas inequidades", planteó Santiago del Sel, titular de ACDE. Se propuso trabajar desde cada compañía en la integración de redes con otras empresas que trabajen en el mismo objetivo; en el apoyo corporativo a incubadoras de empresas de inclusión social, y en la canalización de acciones de voluntariado desarrolladas por las empresas y su gente, hacia el objetivo de la inclusión social. La actividad cerró con la descripción de una serie de acciones concretas que los empresarios bien podrían encarar para cumplir el objetivo propuesto: la primera de ellas, identificada como el "programa Umbrales", propone revisar los criterios usados a la hora de seleccionar personal, y que determinan que muchos no tengan posibilidad de acceder al empleo que origina el crecimiento económico.
